The basket, tracked

actual vs MER synthetic KWD/CHF · rebased to 100 · weekly tracking errors average near zero but accumulate into a visible gap over a long window — read the residual panel below, not this gap, for tracking quality

Pairs are quoted market-convention X/KWD - the dinar price of one unit of X - so a rising line means that currency dearer and the dinar weaker; the basket chart plots the inverse pair KWD/CHF, where rising means a stronger dinar. The MER synthetic basket is Macro Edge Research's reconstruction of the CBK's undisclosed peg basket using the rounded weights USD 85% / EUR 10% / JPY 3% / GBP 2%; the CHF-numeraire weekly series behind the basket charts uses market crosses, which differ from CBK's fixing time by a small timing basis. CBK publishes fixings Sunday through Thursday (Kuwait weekend Friday-Saturday) and does not disclose the actual weights. Series on rebased charts index to 100 at their first value inside the selected range, so only drift inside the window shows; the basket series aggregate to Friday-labeled weeks, so their right edge can trail the fixing charts by a few days. Reserves, M2 and the adequacy ratios publish at roughly a one-month lag. Reserves and adequacy plot year-end annual observations through 2019 (World Bank and FRED long-arc) and monthly CBK NSDP data from 2020, with R/M2 chain-linked across the 2020 M2 sectoral reclassification; ARA values before 2013 are anchored to the IMF's Article IV historical chart, year-end values from 2013 are IMF labeled actuals with MER-computed monthly readings between anchors, and readings after end-2025 are MER's damped-Holt nowcast. CBK books monetary gold at the fixed 1978 decree price (KWD 12.500 per ounce); the reserves chart's optional market-value line revalues the same holdings at the LBMA Gold PM Fix. Nowcast months are written as data arrives and are not routinely restated; the definitive record of what each issue published is the issue itself, and the tile carries the latest issue's value. Methodology and the monthly record: the research catalog carries every Monitor issue and the two working papers (the Frankel-Wei basket paper and the ARA nowcast paper).
